The Distinguished Alumni Award was created in 2015 to recognize those graduates of Norfolk Public Schools who have succeeded in their careers and lives. Inductees may also include those who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to the community and society.

The goal of the District’s Distinguished Alumni Award is to introduce two positive role models representing each of Norfolk’s five high schools each year to the academic community and acknowledge his/her achievements. Such an individual, by their very nature, inspires students to adopt higher aspirations. Also, each alumnus serves as a motivation for current students to excel, reminds faculty of the potential each student has to make the community better. It also reconnects alumni to their school, city and brings the community into the schools for a positive event, and brings pride to the community as the achievements of the individuals is recognized.
