The single most pressing and critical priority for our nation is to provide a quality education for every child. Our future depends upon it.
The Norfolk Education Foundation is Norfolk Public Schools’ fundraising partner. We secure community investment, build relationships and champion public education to impact system-wide achievement and help every child maximize their academic potential, develop skills for lifelong learning and are successful contributors to a global society.
Every child deserves an excellent education.
We believe every child deserves an excellent education and this is our promise to the students in Norfolk Public Schools and to the entire community; with your help, we will make that happen!
In partnership with Norfolk Public Schools, we serve as community champions for public education so that all students have the opportunity to succeed by raising needed funds, and making strategic program investments.
In Norfolk Public Schools, outstanding educational achievements are the norm, diversity is the cornerstone of our community and all children have hope of a great future.
The Norfolk Education Foundation (NEF) was established in 2002 to serve as the fundraising arm for Norfolk Public Schools. NEF maintained a relatively passive role over the next four years until it was revitalized in 2006 under the instrumental leadership of former NPS Superintendent Dr. Stephen C. Jones. NEF continued to grow under the leadership of its first five board chairs; Kenneth Newman, Carlos Clanton, Lisa Chandler, Kim Georges and Barbara Hamm Lee.
Today, the Norfolk Education Foundation plays a key role in securing private funds that enable the district to successfully implement initiatives that help drive student achievement. The Norfolk Education Foundation works alongside current NPS Superintendent Dr. Melinda J. Boone to continue to drive community investment back into our public schools.
The Norfolk Education Foundation board of directors consists of some of Norfolk’s key business and community leaders. All are deeply committed to driving community investment in the educational priorities of the district and raising student achievement.
The Norfolk Education Foundation is a community stakeholder organization that fosters engagement to fund-raise in support of the initiatives of Norfolk Public Schools by:
- Developing strategic business and community partnerships
- Celebrating the accomplishments of students, teachers and staff
- Serving as ambassadors to promote public education
- Providing grants to teachers for innovative student learning opportunities
- Seeking financial resources to fund district initiatives
What does the Norfolk Education Foundation do?
The Norfolk Education Foundation engages the entire community in support of our schools and our children:
We raise money. In 2013-14, we directed over $350,000 to NPS.
We champion public education, serving as ambassadors and advocates for NPS.
We build partnerships between the community and our schools, driving talent, resources and volunteers into our classrooms.
Where does the funding go?
We fund system-wide innovative and core programs in literacy, tutoring, STEM and Career & Technical education, after-school, the arts and athletics.
Why support Norfolk Public Schools?
State funding for NPS is simply inadequate to provide the resources and programs needed to help Every Child Succeed. The Norfolk Education Foundation helps fill that gap, allowing NPS to sustain and expand proven programs that might otherwise disappear from schools. By supporting the Norfolk Education Foundation, the entire community is contributing to NPS' progress.
Why the Norfolk Education Foundation?
Your support has a tangible impact: better test scores, lower dropout rates and more students graduating.
Your support has a wide reach: serving all of the district's 43 schools and more than 36,000 children.
The Foundation is efficient and sustainable, with an 10-year track record of measurable and successful outcomes.
The Foundation is built and sustained by the community; individuals, businesses, alumni, parents, NPS employees and others contributes to the success of our children through the Norfolk Education Foundation. We are all NPS.
What can I do to help?
Norfolk's future is in your hands.
